Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova of Russia has beaten three-time champion Venus Williams to reach the finals of the NASDAQ -100 Open tennis tournament in Key Biscayne Florida.
Sharapova, the second seed, defeated Williams in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. The world's number three player, Sharapova will meet the winner of the other women's semifinal between top seed Amelie Mauresmo of France and Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
In men's quarterfinal play, world number one player Roger Federer of Switzerland takes on Tim Henman of Britain, while American Andre Agassi faces countryman Taylor Dent.
Federer had his hands full in the fourth round, taking three sets to beat Mario Ancic of Croatia (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). Agassi is a six-time champion at this event and is coming off a straight-set win over Gaston Gaudio of Argentina, 7-6, 6-2.
