Di Luca Takes Lead in Tour of Italy

Italian cyclist Danilo Di Luca has won the fifth stage of the Tour of Italy in a sprint finish and taken the overall lead from Olympic champion Paolo Bettini.

Di Luca finished Thursday's 223-kilometer stage in 6:01:18 hours. It was his second stage victory in three days at this year's Tour, but the first time in his career he has worn the leader's pink jersey.

Fellow Italian Marzio Bruseghin was second, with Colombia's Mauricio Ardila third, two seconds back. Di Luca leads Bettini by three seconds in the overall standings. Another Italian, Luca Mazzanti, is third overall, 25 seconds back.

Friday's sixth stage covers 153 kilometers between Viterbo and Marina Di Grosseto. The Tour ends May 29 in Milan.
