Italian authorities are reported to have arrested three Algerians suspected of preparing a terrorist attack in the country.
Italian news reports said Thursday the three men were arrested late Tuesday in the southern port city of Naples and in Brescia in the north.
The men are believed to have links to the banned Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat in Europe, an Algerian militant group that has allied itself with al-Qaida.
Italy has frequently received threats from extremist groups for maintaining its three-thousand-strong military contingent in southern Iraq. Italy raised its security alert after the July 7 suicide bombings in London.
