A shoot-out between rival drug gangs in a Brazilian shantytown has left at least five people dead and others injured.
Police Thursday say gunfire erupted Wednesday night when 40 black-clad members of one gang entered Rio's Rocinha slum, trying to take control of the shantytown's drug trade from another gang.
Officers say shooting continued for several hours and that a 14-year-old boy was among those killed.
Several people have been arrested.
The gang violence comes as Rio de Janeiro prepares for a free concert by the Rolling Stones Saturday and the nation's famed Carnival celebrations later this month. The events are expected to lure hundreds of thousands of tourists.
Rio is one of the world's most violent cities. Its slums are often the scene of gang- and drug-related violence that kills hundreds of people each year.
