Tennis: Hewitt Advances to Channel Open Semifinals

Former world number one men's tennis player, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, overcame tough weather conditions to breeze into the semifinals of the Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The usual dry, hot desert climate was cold and windy for Friday's quarterfinals.

The top seeded Hewitt blew past Germany's Philip Kohlschrieber 6-2, 6-0 after an hour rain delay. The Australian is looking for his first victory in nearly 14 months.

Hewitt Saturday, takes on American Paul Goldstein, who advanced when his quarterfinals opponent, Xavier Malisse of Belgium, retired in the second set due to an injury. Goldstein led 6-2, 2-0 when Malisse quit the match.

Big serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic upset third seed Tommy Robredo of Spain 7-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals where he will take on James Blake. The American fifth seed knocked off Denmark's Kenneth Carlsen 6-4, 6-4 to advance.
