The New York Mets crushed the hapless Washington Nationals 13-4 in Major League Baseball action Thursday.
Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Cliff Floyd all homered off Nationals starting pitcher Livan Hernandez in the first inning. Carlos Delgado later tagged Hernandez in the third inning for a two-run homer.
The Mets have won five consecutive games, while Washington has dropped its last five games.
The Los Angeles Dodgers also scored a blowout win Thursday as they thrashed the Pittsburgh Pirates 13-5. Cody Ross hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, and added a three-run homer in the sixth.
Also in the National League, the Florida Marlins cruised to a 9-2 win over the San Diego Padres. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Saint Louis Cardinals 4-3 thanks to Carlos Lee's game-winning home run in the 11th inning. The Cincinnati Reds downed the Chicago Cubs 8-3. Chase Utley hit two homers and drove in four runs to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-6 win over the Atlanta Braves.
Colorado's Brad Hawpe homered for the fourth straight game as the Rockies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3. And San Francisco split a doubleheader with the Houston Astros - the Giants beat Houston 5-3 in the first game, while the Astros turned the tables in the second game by winning 8-0.
In the American League, the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 13-9. Chicago's Jim Thome homered for the fourth consecutive game, while Tadahito Iguchi also homered and drove in three runs. Alex Cintron added a pair of RBI runs batted-in triples.
The New York Yankees downed the Kansas City Royals 9-3. Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson pitched five strong innings, while teammates Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi and Johnny Damon all homered.
Elsewhere in the AL, the Minnesota Twins scored an easy 8-2 victory over the Oakland A's. Ichiro Suzuki and Jose Lopez each hit two-run homers to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 9-5 win over the Cleveland Indians.
