Serb Police Search for Fugitive War Crimes Suspect Mladic

update

Authorities in Serbia have carried out raids in Serbia as part of a stepped up effort to find and arrest fugitive war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic.

Special units searched in several towns Sunday, but Reuters news agency says no results were reported.

On Friday, police detained two people on suspicion of helping Mladic evade capture. Eight others have been arrested in recent months in connection with the hunt for Mladic.

Last week, the European Union suspended talks on closer ties with Serbia and Montenegro because of the country's failure to arrest Mladic and send him to the United Nations war crimes tribunal in the Hague.

The tribunal has indicted Mladic for attacks on civilians during the Balkan conflict when he was the top commander of Serb forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
