A doctor and two nurses have been arrested in connection with patient deaths at a New Orleans hospital following hurricane Katrina.
A law enforcement official said the three were arrested late Monday and charged with second-degree murder.
At least 34 people died at Memorial Medical Center after it lost power during the storm last year. The facility began running out of supplies following the hurricane.
Authorities have been investigating claims that hospital staff gave fatal doses of medication to patients amid the worsening conditions. Patients and staff had to wait days for evacuation.
The hospital and many other parts of New Orleans were cut off by flooding caused by the storm, which hit August 29. The city and large areas of the U.S. Gulf Coast sustained major damage. Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
