Russia' s Gazprom Threatens Cutoff of Natural Gas Supplies to Bosnia

update

The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom is threatening to cut off natural gas supplies to Bosnia unless Sarajevo takes action to pay off debt accumulated during the Bosnian war.

In a statement Tuesday Bosnia's natural gas importer, Energoinvest, said that Gazprom has threatened to cut off natural gas deliveries October first unless steps are taken to repay the debt.

Bosnia owes Gazprom almost $105 million from the 1992-1995 conflict.

Gazprom is the sole supplier of gas to Bosnia/Herzegovenia.

In the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, alone 70,000 homes are heated with natural gas, as are most schools and hospitals.
