The Solomon Islands government says it is investigating the raid of the prime minister's office by Australian police, which followed his refusal to hand over a top official to Canberra on child sex charges.
Solomon Islands Finance Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo told Australian media Saturday that he is furious with the way the raid was conducted. He accused police of malicious damage.
Australian and local police entered the office of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare with a search warrant Friday. They seized a fax machine that might prove he helped the Solomon Island's new attorney general, Julian Moti, flee from Papua New Guinea to the Solomons.
Moti, an Australian citizen, was detained in Papua New Guinea in September on Australia's request. Earlier this month, he escaped custody and was flown to the Solomon Islands aboard a PNG military plane.
