President Bush meets Friday, with the secretary-general of NATO to discuss operations in Afghanistan and an upcoming NATO summit.
Mr. Bush and Jaap de Hoop Scheffer are set to meet at the White House. NATO recently took over peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan. That topic is expected to be high on the agenda today.
De Hoop Scheffer also is expected to press for more NATO cooperation with Russia. He comes to Washington from Moscow, where he met with President Vladimir Putin, the Russian defense minister and several top lawmakers.
Mr. Bush and his guest also are likely to discuss the NATO summit scheduled for late November in Riga, Latvia. At that summit, NATO expansion is expected to be a major topic.
