Figure Skating: Lysacek Wins Men's Title at Cup of China Event

American figure skater Evan Lysacek has won the men's title at the Cup of China event in Shanghai, while compatriot Emily Hughes finished third in the women's competition.

Lysacek won the men's free skate Saturday to take the title with 220.4 points. Sergei Davydov of Belarus finished second (199.11) with Emanuel Sandhu of Canada third (193.39).

Meanwhile, Emily Hughes, the younger sister of 2002 Olympic gold medalist Sarah Hughes, won the women's free skate but finished third overall behind Hungary's Julia Sebestyen (153.8 points) and Yukari Nakano of Japan (151.27). Hughes struggled with some of her jumps, which cost her points.

In the ice dancing competition, Russia's Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin won with 188.41 points. Olympic silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto of the United States were second (187.15). Jana Khokhlova and Sergei Novitski of Russia were third (173.86).

The Cup of China was the third event in the International Skating Union's Grand Prix Series. The top six scorers in the six events qualify for the Grand Prix final in St. Petersburg, Russia, next month.
