NBA: Scoring Leader Suspended for 15 Games

National Basketball Association scoring leader Carmelo Anthony has been suspended for 15 games for his part in a brawl that broke out late in the Denver Nuggets' 123-100 win over the host New York Knicks on Saturday.

NBA Commissioner David Stern handed out suspensions to a total of seven players Monday. He also fined both of the teams $500,000, saying that all teams will be held accountable for the actions of their employees - management and players alike.

The Knicks Nate Robinson and J.R. Smith of the Nuggets each got benched for 10 games, while New York's Mardy Collins and Jared Jeffries were suspended for six and four games respectively.

In addition, Jerome James of the Knicks and Brazilian-born Nene of the Nuggets were each banned for one game for leaving the bench during an on-court altercation.

Denver was ahead 119-100 and still had its starters in the line-up with 1:15 to play, when the Nuggets' J.R. Smith went in for a lay-up. But he was grabbed around the neck from behind and pulled to the court by Knicks guard Mardy Collins.

Smith started arguing with Collins, and New York's Nate Robinson jumped in to yell at Smith. Anthony rushed in and appeared to throw a punch at Collins, while Robinson and Smith fell into the front row of fans while fighting with each other.
