Hollywood Director Takes Philippine Pedicab to Presidential Palace

Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino took a pedicab to an appointment with the president of the Philippine's Wednesday after a flood-induced traffic jam trapped his limousine on streets of the country's capital, Manila.

Tarantino, who is best known for his violence-soaked films Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, arrived at President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's office a bit late, and a bit wet, but still in time to receive a film award from the president.

Mrs. Arroyo arrived after Tarantino. She also had been stuck in traffic.

When asked about his adventure on the pedicab - a bicycle with a canopy covered sidecar - Tarantino said it was "wild" and "a lot of fun." The ride through flooded city streets did not worry Tarantino, who said: "I have done more serious things than that."

He is currently in the Philippines attending an international film festival.

Schools and offices were closed Wednesday in Manila as Typhoon Serat skirted the northeastern tip of the island, triggering evacuations and flood warnings.
