Azerbaijani authorities have arrested another journalist and searched his home.
News media reported Friday that police in the autonomous republic of Nakhichevan detained Elman Abbasov, a former correspondent of Bizim Yol newspaper. Reports say officers confiscated his computer and other items during the search. It was not immediately clear why he was arrested.
Nakhichevan police on Thursday arrested journalist Ilgar Nasibov, a correspondent for the U.S.-funded broadcaster Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty.
His wife Malahat Nasibov said her husband had complained about ongoing police violence and pressure against independent journalists. She said he was later threatened by the capital city's police chief with a lawsuit for slander, and that charges were filed but later dismissed. His computer also was confiscated.
The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the arrest Thursday, saying Nasibov is the 10th journalist currently behind bars in Azerbaijan.
Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty also denounced the arrest in a statement, calling for Nasibov's immediate release.
International rights groups have repeatedly called on Azerbaijan to stop harassing journalists for doing their job.
