President Bush Visits NY Under Tight Security - 2001-09-14

President Bush is in New York City for a first hand look at the wreckage of the World Trade Center.

The president's first view of the damage came from the sky.

Instead of using one of the New York City airports, the presidential jet landed at an air force base in the neighboring state of New Jersey. Mr. Bush then boarded a helicopter for an aerial tour of the disaster zone.

He will also see the wreckage from the ground up, accompanied by local and state officials. Details of his schedule are not being announced in advance, yet another indication of the stringent security attached to this visit.

President Bush headed to New York City after attending a prayer service at Washington's National Cathedral. He said America is united in a kinship of grief and a determination to prevail against those responsible for the worst terrorist attacks in United States history.
