Liberian Religious Activist Arrested - 2002-02-22


In Liberia, police arrested and briefly detained the head of the Roman Catholic Justice and Peace Commission. Frances Johnson-Morris recently criticized the country’s state of emergency. She was taken to national police headquarters in Monrovia. Earlier this week, Ms. Johnson-Morris said that since most of the country was not affected by rebel attacks, the state of emergency should not be imposed on all counties.
