Cricket: Australia Defeats S. Africa in One Day International - 2002-04-06

Australia's cricket team has defeated South Africa by three wickets in the sixth one-day international between the two sides in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

South Africa batted first and reached 326-3 in 50 overs. Graeme Smith was the high scorer for the home side with 84 runs. Jacques Kallis added another 80 runs.

Australia responded with the highest winning total by a side batting second in the history of one-day cricket, reaching 330-7 with five balls to spare. Captain Ricky Ponting led the visitors with 92 runs while Darren Lehman added another 91 runs.

The previous record runs chase in one-day play was 316 runs scored by Australia against Pakistan in Lahore in 1998-99 and by India against Pakistan in Dhaka in 1997-98.

The victory puts Australia up 5-0 in the seven match series with one match to play.
