Yugoslavia Advances in World Basketball Championship - 2002-09-04


Yugoslavia has kept alive the defense of its World Basketball Championship title with a 110-78 win over Turkey on Wednesday in Indianapolis. Peja Stojakovic and Milan Gurovic scored 16 points each as Yugoslavia moved on to the medal round.

Elsewhere, Spain defeated Brazil 84-67. Pau Gasol led the Spaniards to their fifth win in six games with 23 points.

New Zealand defeated China, 94-88 as Phil Jones led the way with 33 points. The New Zealanders rallied from a 24-point deficit. Yao Ming led China with 27 points. The United States plays Argentina on Wednesday night.
