In the days and months after September 11, we learned much more about the heroism displayed that day. Many stories of courage unfolded as the World Trade Center came under attack.
The second deadliest assault took place at the U.S. Pentagon, just outside Washington, D.C. where 189 people died. But many others in the building survived, thanks in part to rescue efforts by some brave people.
