Zimbabwe's Main Opposition Denies It's Part of Reported Secret Plans To Allow President Mugabe To Leave The Country - 2003-01-13

Zimbabwe’s Main Opposition party, Movement For Democratic Change, MDC, denies Press Reports of a secret plan for President Robert Mugabe to leave the country.

English to Africa reporter Richard Kotey spoke with the Secretary General of the MDC, Welshman Ncube from Harare. He said he can speak authoritatively that his party has had no discussion with the ruling ZANU-PF party or any official about plans to allow Mr. Mubabe to leave the country.

He said if there is such a plan or proposal, it is absolutely an internal issue of ZANU-PF and not the business of his party. He said he’s aware some stories have been attributed to the leader of the opposition MDC, Morgan Tsvangirai, on this issue. But he said those stories have no basis.

He said the National Council of the MDC Party, the Supreme Council of the MDC, has directed its members not to engage in any talks with anybody on the issue.
