The San Antonio Spurs are one win away from advancing to the NBA finals Wednesday night when they take on the Dallas Mavericks in Game Five of the National Basketball Association's Western Conference finals.
The Spurs lead the Mavericks, three games to one in the best of seven games series. San Antonio scored a 102-95 win over Dallas Sunday night. The Mavericks have been without star forward Dirk Nowitzki of Germany since he sprained ligaments in his left knee during a collision in Game three. Nowitzki is not expected to play in Game Five.
San Antonio has not been to the NBA finals since 1999, when the Spurs won the championship in five games over the New York Knicks. The winner of this year's Western Conference championship will take on the New Jersey Nets, who swept the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals.
