Officials in Kyrgyzstan say a French motorcycle enthusiast working to promote humanitarian cooperation has died as a result of a road accident.
Kyrgyz officials said Monday 57-year-old Red Cross volunteer Gerard Starck died on his way to a hospital, after his motorbike crashed into a car in bad weather. He was headed to neighboring Uzbekistan. Mr. Starck was on a six-year-long world motorcycle tour aimed at promoting humanitarian cooperation between Christian and Muslim humanitarian missions. His trip, which began in 1997, had taken him to nearly 148 of the 179 Red Cross and Red Crescent National societies around the world.
