France has joined Greece, Lithuania and Spain in the quarterfinals of the European Basketball Championship in Sweden.
National Basketball Association star Tony Parker scored a game-high 21 points Sunday as France beat Slovenia, 88-82. France finished at the top of the Group-A standings after its third straight win. Parker of the San Antonio Spurs became the first French player to be a member of an NBA championship team. He led France in scoring for the first time after a 10 point effort against Italy the day before.
Elsewhere, shooting guard Juan-Carlos Navarro scored 22 points and last year's NBA rookie of the year Pau Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies added 20 as Spain stayed unbeaten in Group-C with a 75-67 win over defending champion Serbia and Montenegro.
It was the second loss in the round-robin portion for Serbia and Montenegro, which won the world championship last year in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lithuania beat Germany 93-71, to win Group-B with a 3-0 record. Saulius Stombergas scored a game high 28 points in the loss for Lithuania. Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks led Germany with 19 points. Greece rallied from a 22-9 deficit in the first quarter to defeat Ukraine 79-73, for its third straight win and first place in Group-D.
The remaining four quarterfinal berths will be decided Monday after four elimination games.
