Undefeated Chiefs Set for Monday Night Meeting with Falling Raiders - 2003-10-20

Two teams headed in different directions will meet in the National Football League's weekly Monday night game, as the Oakland Raiders host the Kansas City Chiefs (9:00 p.m. EDT, 0100 UTC Tuesday).

Since losing in the Super Bowl last January, things have gone downhill for Oakland. The Raiders went from being one of the highest scoring teams in the league to averaging just 19 points while losing four of their first six games this season. Last week, Oakland committed an NFL season high 19 penalties in a 13-7 road loss to the Cleveland Browns.

In contrast, their bitter AFC West Division rivals the Kansas City Chiefs are one of only two undefeated teams in the league, averaging more than 32 points per game this season. The Chiefs have shown the capacity to rally from behind in their last three wins, including battling back from a 17 point deficit in the second half to beat Green Bay in overtime last week (40-34).

But despite their high-powered offense, Kansas City's defense is near the bottom of the league, ranking 13th of the 16 teams in their conference (AFC). The Raiders have won six of the last seven meetings with the Chiefs.
