US Soldiers Celebrate Thanksgiving in Iraq

U.S. soldiers in Iraq are celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday with traditional meals of turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie and even American football on television.

Hundreds of kilos of turkey and the ingredients for the accompanying dishes were flown in from the United States through Kuwait. Military cooks prepared the thousands of meals at military compounds across Iraq.

In Baghdad and Tikrit soldiers held a holiday race to get them in the festive spirit.

While most soldiers expressed disappointment at not being with their families today, some said they are thankful to still be alive.

Some lucky soldiers, however, will be spending the holiday with their families in the United States, as part of the military's two-week leave program.
