Rock Musician David Crosby Arrested in New York - 2004-03-07

update

American rock musician David Crosby has been arrested in New York City on drug and weapons charges.

New York police say Crosby was taken into custody early Saturday after an employee at a hotel where he had been staying found marijuana, a 45 caliber handgun and two knives in his luggage.

Authorities say the 62-year-old musician had forgotten his bag at the hotel after checking out, and a maid found the illegal items while searching the luggage for identification. Police were waiting for Crosby when he returned to pick up the bag.

Crosby is free on bond after appearing in court and posting bail. He is scheduled to return to court on May 19.

In 1985, Crosby was jailed on drug and weapons possession charges. He suffered from liver disease and received a transplant in 1994. For the last decade he has touted the benefits of drug-free clean living.

Crosby most recently gained notoriety for twice donating sperm used to produce two children through artificial insemination for fellow rock musician Melissa Etheridge and her lesbian partner, who carried the two babies.
