Greece's national football team has continued its string of upsets by defeating reigning champion France, 1-0, to reach the semifinals of the European championships in Portugal.
A 65th-minute header from Werder Bremen striker Angelos Charisteas was the only score the Greeks needed to set up a semifinal against either the Czech Republic or Denmark. Those two nations meet in a quarterfinal Sunday.
Greece beat host country Portugal in its opening match then played Spain to a 1-1 draw. The Greeks lost to Russia in their final preliminary round match, 2-1.
Quarterfinal action continues Saturday when the Netherlands plays Sweden. The winner of that match faces host country Portugal in the semifinals. The championship match is July fourth in Lisbon.
