Bush Goals for Second Term: Complete Work in Iraq and Afghanistan - 2004-09-03

President Bush says among his goals for a second term are completing the U.S. missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. The President accepted his partys nomination for another four years in the White House on the last day of the Republican National Convention in New York City.

Mr. Bush used his acceptance speech to focus on his efforts in the war on terrorism and his decision to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If reelected, the President vowed to bring home U.S. troops after they complete the job of stabilizing the two nations. "So our mission in Afghanistan and Iraq is clear: We will help new leaders to train their armies, and move toward elections, and get on the path of stability and democracy as quickly as possible. And then our troops will return home with the honor they have earned," he said.

Mr. Bush said as the citizens of Afghanistan and Iraq seize the moment, their example will send a message of hope throughout the region.
