Iran's foreign minister has condemned the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq as illegal in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Kamal Kharrazi said that while Iran benefited from the removal of Saddam Hussein, the rush to use force without United Nations approval was wrong.
On the subject of terrorism, Mr. Kharrazi said combating it has become an international challenge. He reiterated his country's commitment to the war on terror, citing Iran's success in arresting and extraditing a number of suspected al-Qaida members.
Mr. Kharrazi also said Iran has been in the forefront to establish a zone free from weapons of mass destruction in the region. He criticized Israel for not disarming, but he did not mention international criticism of Iran's nuclear program.
