Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Edwards says his running-mate John Kerry showed the qualities necessary to be president in his first debate with George Bush.
In his party's weekly radio address, Senator John Edwards said Mr. Kerry showed the strength and conviction necessary to be the nation's next commander in chief.
The North Carolina Senator said Mr. Kerry left no doubt that he could win in the war against terrorism. Mr. Edwards criticized Mr. Bush, saying the Republican president was hiding a worsening situation in Iraq. He said Mr. Bush could not fix the threats that America faces because he refuses to admit there are problems.
Mr. Edwards also said Mr. Bush was ignoring problems at home such as the country's weak economy.
