At Least 6 More Killed in Northeast India Violence - 2004-10-03

Police in India say two new bomb blasts in the northeastern state of Assam Sunday killed at least six people and wounded more than 35.

This brings the death toll from two days of bomb and gun attacks in the region to at least 57.

The authorities blame the attacks on the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland that has been fighting for a separate tribal homeland.

The deadliest attacks took place early Saturday in neighboring Nagaland state, where authorities said bombings killed dozens of people and wounded scores of others.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has condemned the attacks against civilians.
