4 US Soldiers Killed in Roadside Bomb Blasts in Baghdad - 2004-10-13

The U.S. military in Iraq says four American soldiers have been killed in two separate roadside bomb blasts in Baghdad.

The military says one soldier died early Wednesday morning when a bomb blast hit a convoy in western Baghdad and three soldiers were killed in a similar attack in an eastern part of the city late Tuesday.

U.S. forces Tuesday pounded insurgent targets across Iraq as they stepped up operations to restore security ahead of scheduled January elections.

In Fallujah, warplanes bombed buildings believed to be used by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's terror network, killing at least four Iraqis.

In Ramadi, U.S.-backed Iraqi troops raided seven mosques to search for insurgents and illegal weapons. They also arrested the region's top Sunni Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abdul Aleim Saadi.
