Football: US Women's Team Earns Berth in 2007 World Cup

The U.S women's soccer team has earned a berth in the 2007 Women's World Cup thanks to a 2-0 win over Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals Wednesday in Carson, California.

American Abby Wambach scored both of the U.S. team's goals (in the 10th and 64th minutes). The 26-year-old Wambach was making her 83rd appearance for the U.S. team.

In addition to earning a berth in next September's World Cup in China, the U.S. women set a national record for the longest unbeaten streak. The Americans now have 26 wins no losses and five draws since December of 2004.

In the other Gold Cup semifinal, Canada beat Jamaica, 4-0. The U.S. women play Canada for the championship Sunday in Carson. Mexico and Jamaica play in the third-place game with the winner facing Japan in a two-match series for the final berth in the women's World Cup.
