Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has taken four crucial wickets and paceman Shoaib Akhtar took three more in Multan to lead host-Pakistan to a 22-run cricket victory over England in the opening test of a three-match series.
England took a formidable first innings lead of 144 runs after making 418 in reply to Pakistan's 274. Pakistan was bowled out for 341 in its second innings Tuesday.
England resumed play on Wednesday's fifth day needing 198 to win, and made it to 64-1 after resuming at 24-1. But the tourists were bowled out for 175, as Kaneria routed England's top order by taking four wickets-for-62 and Akhtar finished off the order with 3-49.
The second test starts Sunday in Faisalabad, while the third test gets under way in Lahore on November 29. The teams will then play five one-day internationals next month.
