The Emir of Kuwait has accepted the resignation of the country's interior minister, who quit last month over allegations of torture.
Kuwait's state-run news agency says the resignation of Sheikh Jaber al-Khaled al-Sabah was accepted Sunday. He had offered to step down last month after lawmakers asked to question him over the death of a Kuwaiti man arrested for illegal liquor sales. The man was allegedly tortured while in police custody.
The state news agency says Sheikh Ahmed al-Hamoud, a member of the ruling family, has been appointed as Kuwait's new interior minister.
