Libyan Terrorism Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

The Libyan terrorism suspect known as Abu Anas al-Libi has pleaded not guilty to charges linking him to the bombings of two U.S. embassies in East Africa in 1998.

The suspected al-Qaida member entered the plea Tuesday in a New York federal court. Al-Libi was snatched by U.S. special forces in Tripoli October 5 and held on an American warship until arriving in New York on Monday.

Al-Libi, whose full name is Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, has been under federal indictment in New York for more than a decade for allegedly planning the attack on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The 1998 attacks killed more than 200 people, including 12 Americans.

The suspect was on the FBI's list of most wanted terrorists. Al-Libi's family denies his alleged ties to al-Qaida.

Intelligence officials interrogated al-Libi while he was aboard the warship.
