Regional officials say heavy rains in northern Peru have triggered mudslides that have left at least 20 people dead and 25 others missing.
Authorities said Friday that the severe weather affected the Huanuco region and that five deaths occurred Thursday in the town of Cancejos. Several deaths have also been reported in the city of Ambo, another area in Huanuco.
Additionally, officials say the intense rains and mudslides damaged or destroyed dozens of homes in the region.
Huanuco is northeast of Lima, the Peruvian capital.
