'Severe' Cyclone Headed Towards Eastern India

India is bracing for a massive storm expected to hit its eastern seaboard.

Indian forecasters say a "very severe" Cyclone Phailin could cause widespread damage and flooding for the impoverished states of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh Saturday evening.

Weather forecasters have predicted wind speeds of up to 185 kilometers per hours at landfall, with waves up to two meters. They say those numbers could increase as Phailin gains strength.

A cyclone hit Orissa in 1999, killing at least 10,000 people.
