Philippines Sends Peacekeepers to Haiti

The Philippines plans to send at least 146 troops to Haiti this month to assist United Nations peacekeeping efforts there.

A Philippine military spokesman says a four-man advance team will leave for Haiti Friday, with the rest of the team following next week.

The spokesman says the Philippine contingent was organized after President Gloria Arroyo approved a U.N. request for Manila to participate in peacekeeping efforts in Haiti.
