The chief justice in the U.S. state of Alabama is defying a ruling by a federal judge to allow same sex marriage in the state by urging local officials not to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Justice Roy Moore, a conservative Christian who strongly opposes gay marriage, has been embroiled in a constitutional controversy in Alabama before. VOA’s Deborah Block reports.
