Fourteen people have been killed and five others wounded after armed attackers stormed an estate in southwestern Colombia.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which occurred late Sunday in the town Candelaria, several hundred kilometers southwest of Bogota.

At a news conference, Candelaria's mayor Oscar Lopez called the crime horrifying, and said an investigation is underway.

It is unclear if the incident is connected to Colombia's four-decade-old civil war, which pits Marxist rebel groups against paramilitary and government forces.
