Authorities in Nepal say they have arrested 27 Tibetan refugees who entered the country from China on their way to India.

Authorities say the refugees were arrested Monday for not having proper travel documents. They are expected to be handed over to United Nations refugee officials.

The Tibetans were reportedly trying to reach the Indian city of Dharmsala, where Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, lives.

Hundreds of Tibetan refugees travel through Nepal each year in an effort to reach Dharmsala.
