British officials say six people died and 11 were seriously injured when a high-speed train hit a car Saturday evening outside London.

They say at least nine carriages derailed and some tipped over, trapping some passengers. Six people remain trapped in the wreckage more than three hours after the collision.

Dozens of fire engines and ambulances were rushed to the scene near Reading, as passengers were dragged from the train.
