Italian football power AC Milan and Arsenal of England have opened with impressive victories in the European Champions League tournament. But perennial Spanish favorite Real Madrid suffered a loss Wednesday.

Six-time European champion AC Milan beat AEK Athens of Greece, 3-0, in a GroupH game. Anderlecht of Belgium and Lille drew 1-1 in the other Group H match.

Arsenal, which was last season's runner-up, began its campaign with a 2-1 win at Hamburger SV of Germany. A scoreless (0-0) draw between FC Porto of Portugal and CSKA Moscow of Russia put Arsenal in first place in Group G after the opening round of games.

French champion Lyon of France scored a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in a one-sided Group E game at Stade Gerland. Steaua Bucharest of Romania beat Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine, 4-1, also in Group E

Manchester United of England edged Celtic of Scotland, 3-2, in Group F. The result put United in first place because FC Copenhagen of Denmark and two-time European champion Benfica of Portugal ended with a scoreless draw.
