Actress Kim Basinger has hired a bodyguard for her 11-year-old daughter Ireland, following a voice mail tirade by her father, actor Alec Baldwin.

The actress' spokeswoman Annett Wolf issued an April 23 statement denying that Basinger released a widely-circulated telephone message, in which Alec Baldwin berated Ireland for not answering a pre-arranged telephone call.

He has since been ordered to stay away from his daughter, pending a May 4 hearing. The statement added that Basinger hopes Baldwin would "Finally address his unstable and irrational behavior so he, at some point, can potentially create a relationship with his daughter."

Kim Basinger faces trial on 12 misdemeanor counts of criminal contempt for allegedly disregarding orders concerning Baldwin's visitation rights.

The two have been battling for custody of their only daughter since their divorce in 2002.
