Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has left a French hospital after more than three weeks of treatment for a bleeding stomach ulcer.

Algeria's official APS news agency says Mr. Bouteflika, 68, left Paris' Val-de-Grace military hospital Saturday. It says the president has been advised to take complete rest before resuming his full duties.

It was not immediately clear whether the Algerian leader was remaining in France to continue his recovery, or was returning home.

Mr. Bouteflika, who was elected in 2004 to a second five-year term, was flown to Paris on November 26 for treatment. A hospital statement said the Algerian president had undergone successful surgery.
