Angola's president suggests the country's first post-war presidential election be held one year after legislative balloting planned for 2006.

President Jose Eduardo dos Santos offered the idea Thursday, in a speech marking the anniversary of Angola's independence from Portugal.

The Reuters news agency quotes President dos Santos as saying organizing a presidential election a year after the legislative ballot will focus the attention of all political forces in Angola.

The elections will be the first since a peace accord signed in 2002 ended Angola's 27-year civil war.
