Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has condemned a wave of hundreds of small bombings across the country that killed two people and injured more than 100.

Mrs. Zia called the attacks cowardly. She said those behind them are enemies of the country and democracy.

In neighboring India, officials expressed strong concern, saying the scale and coordination of these explosions raise a number of serious questions.

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he was outraged by the senseless acts of indiscriminate violence.

The U.S. and British embassies in Dhaka also condemned the blasts. And the U.S. State Department extended its condolences to the families of those killed.
