Olympic basketball champion Argentina has scored an 84-67 victory over the United States at the World Championship regional qualifying tournament in the Dominican Republic.

Paulo Quinteros scored 21 points and Leonardo Gutierrez added 14 Wednesday to lead Argentina in Santo Domingo. Edney and Kris Lang led the United States with 11 points each while Charlie Bell added 10. Neither team was playing with the same squad it had during last year's Olympic games in Athens, where Argentina beat the Americans in the semifinals and went on to win the gold medal.

The 10-nation event continues through September 4. The top four teams will qualify for the FIBA World Championships in Japan next year. As the Olympic champion, Argentina automatically qualifies.
